An abundance of history, colorful graffiti-covered streets, legendary nightlife and fascinating seasonal events… it’s no wonder Kayaking has mentioned Berlin the best international city in the world for solo travelers.

Berlin has so much to offer, and it doesn’t really matter whether you want to explore the city with a group or alone.

Either way, you’ll be warmly welcomed, and Berlin is a great place to meet new people.

Here’s why solo travelers should consider this fascinating destination for their next European vacation:

Berlin’s main tourist attractions

Berlin is a city with a long, fascinating and often difficult history.

And the museums and buildings here do not shy away from sharing that history, because they believe that education is essential to ensure that atrocities are not forgotten and cannot happen again.

The Brandenburg Gate, the Berlin Wall, the Holocaust Memorial, the Berlin Stasi Prison, Checkpoint Charlie and the Reichstag are considered the most popular tourist attractions in the city.

I have visited Berlin several times, and the attraction that remains in my memory, and that I recommend everyone to visit, is the Memorial to the murdered Jews of Europe.

This is the center of the Holocaust Memorial in Berlin.

It consists of the Field of Stelae, which covers an area of 9,000 square meters and contains 2,711 concrete blocks, as well as an information center that shares information about Holocaust victims and their families and honors their memory. (pictured above)

It’s difficult but so important, and it really brings to life the atrocities that most of us have only read about in history books.

Admission is free.

Close to Berlin’s museum district, I also recommend exploring the ornate and elaborate Berlin Cathedral. (known locally as Berliner Dom). This is a neo-Renaissance building and a German Protestant church with a 100-meter high dome.

Entrance fees 10 euros ($11) per person.

An epic nightlife

Berlin is known for its epic and iconic nightlife.

Berlin loves techno and if you do too, then there’s no better place to experience this exciting music.

Go to Berghain and Watergate to experience the best techno clubs in the world.

But what makes the city’s nightlife so remarkable for solo travelers is that it’s not uncommon for people to go to Berlin alone. This applies not only to tourists, but also to local residents.

It is even encouraged to go to your favorite club or bar alone in the city! It’s a great way to meet new faces and enjoy your favorite music without any pressure.

The same rules apply to a club visit in Berlin as to a solo party anywhere else. Please don’t drink too much and stay alert to your surroundings.

The good news is that this is easy in German nightclubs, where it is the norm to buy a bottle of water instead of a bottle of beer if you want one!

A safe destination for solo travelers

Berlin is an incredibly safe cityand you can travel here with peace of mind as a solo traveler.

The US State Department has given Germany a level 2 travel advisory advise tourists to be more careful in Germany due to terrorism.

But there is no mention here of any crime risk or other dangers.

Of course, no destination in the world is 100% safe, so you should still stay alert and take the usual precautions (like not wearing flashy jewelry or walking alone at night), but Berlin is a city where you can rave or not or not. explore all day all by yourself, without any safety concerns.

Another thing that makes Berlin safe, comfortable and easy to navigate for American solo travelers is that almost everyone speaks English!

It’s fun to try to learn the language when you visit a new destination, but it’s so comforting to know that you can communicate with the people around you in your native language.

Especially if you are lost and need to ask for directions.

Touring Berlin

Germany has a well-deserved reputation for its efficiency, especially when it comes to public transportation, and Berlin is a prime example.

That makes it an incredibly easy city to get around as a solo traveler.

Berlin is a huge city, so you can explore everything on foot. But the buses, trains and trams that run through Berlin are the trinity of things that solo travelers are looking for: clean, safe and affordable.

A single ticket costs 3 euros ($3.30), but if you are going to make multiple trips, it is cheaper to buy the Berlin Welcome Card.

This costs 36 euros ($40) for 72 hours and gives unlimited public transport throughout Berlin, perfect for a short break in the city.
