Caribbean tourism continues to break all pre-pandemic records! The United States Virgin Islands (USVI) reached a record-breaking milestone in 2024, welcoming total 2,703,187 visitors, testament to the island’s growing appeal as a premier destination in the Caribbean. This figure includes 932,265 aircraft arrivals and 1,770,922 cruise passengers, reflecting strong demand for the region’s unique blend of natural beauty, cultural heritage and luxury experiences.
St. Thomas and St. Croix, the major hubs of the USVI, played a major role in driving this wave of tourism. Airline arrivals reached unprecedented levels, demonstrating the success of improved airline connectivity, including additional routes from major US cities. The number of cruise passengers also soared, reaffirming the USVI’s position as the top destination for Caribbean cruise itineraries.
Tourism Commissioner Joseph Boschulte celebrated the milestone, noting: “This extraordinary achievement highlights the U.S. Virgin Islands as a must-visit destination for travelers around the world. The efforts of our tourism team, local stakeholders and industry partners have made 2024 a banner year for our islands.”
The islands’ attractions, ranging from pristine beaches and crystal clear waters to vibrant cultural festivals and historic sites, continue to attract a diverse range of visitors. The USVI’s year-round appeal and commitment to improving the visitor experience have further solidified the position in the competitive Caribbean tourism market.
Looking ahead, the USVI Department of Tourism aims to build on this success by expanding marketing efforts, improving tourism infrastructure and promoting sustainable practices to ensure continued growth. With over 2.7 million visitors in 2024, the US Virgin Islands is poised to cement its reputation as one of the most sought-after destinations in the Caribbean.
