Seen everyone HBOs It’s Florida, man? Yeah, it’s not exactly a selling point for booking a vacation to the Sunshine State, is it?
But that’s the story for the entire state: Florida is one of the most visited destinations for a reason!
TripAdvisor has revealed one top destinations in the stateand you’ll want to add it to your bucket list.
One silly (albeit based on true stories) TV show doesn’t define an entire state – and we all know that Florida is the most popular getaway for the winter sun.
But where can you really feel remote in one of the most sought after destinations for beach holidays?

One of our favorite getaways here at Travel Off Path feels like the Caribbean border, where Hawaiian shirts and flip-flops are almost mandatory in this vibrant getaway that would be a must-visit in 2026 to relax in paradise.
As advertised: Margaritas flow like water

Key WesIt’s Florida’s top destination for 2026. No other sunny Florida vacation destination made the cut – not Miami, not Orlando, not even Siesta Key, known to be voted America’s best beach year after year.
When you think of Key West, you almost think of another country – at least geographically an extension of America.
Honestly, that’s all part of the appeal. Whether you opt for perhaps the most scenic road trip in the US or fly in and snag a window seat to witness the blue dreamscape below where you’ll soon board, Key West only disappoints when you check your bank account.

That is why many choose to drive, not only for the wonderful undertaking ahead, but also to save on airline tickets and spend on experiences, whether nice hotels that are known to cost a pretty penny or double-digit margaritas, even during Happy Hour – not that every hour in the Keys is unhappy…
Anyway, if there was ever a place where you could set your watch to five o’clock all day long, this is it. Jimmy Buffett’s atmosphere is real and not just cheap establishments like Senor Frog. You can even go into the Margaritaville Beach House if you want non-stop Buffet vibes!
Visiting Key West, the most popular city of the Florida Keys map point cluster, is practically a travel sin without stopping Mallory Square – made famous by many a beachy Jimmy Buffett tune and known for its waterfront bars, fiery sunsets and the most laid-back atmosphere you’ll find in Florida
Retiree’s retreat or something for everyone?

Look – we’re not promising that tank tops and swimwear are the best attire for a select group of golden year retirees, but there’s no doubt that everyone can have a good time in Key West.
And can you blame the older crowd for wanting to spend their sunset years in such a beautiful location, where time passes more slowly and Happy Hour never seems to end?
Definitely better than Bingo Night where I come from…
But don’t let a few extra wrinkles rob you of your own blissful escape in Florida’s most remote coastal outpost.
The beaches may not quite be on par with those of other popular cities, but the atmosphere is second to none.

You can enjoy countless excursions, including deep-sea fishing, offshore snorkeling, kayaking tours, dolphin watching and beach bars that blast your favorite song long after sunset.
Which season should you visit?
As you can imagine, Key West is a year-round destination. For example, this week’s weather forecast mostly shows low 70s and sunny, while others are bundled up and busy shoveling their driveway.
That said, as tempting as winter is to visit, our vote goes to mid-summer for one simple reason: Key Lime Festival.
What better way to ring in Independence Day than by celebrating America’s birthday with a forkful of Key Lime pie?

Yes, it may be busier than in winter, but the whole city comes alive with pop-up events and fun street festivities.
Late summer and early fall are the times of year to get tired, given Key West’s completely exposed position in the open sea during “hurricane season.”
However, actual landfalls are rare, making September the most attractive month to visit if festivals aren’t your thing.
You can enjoy the quietest (and often most affordable) time Key West has to offer between the popular Key Lime Festival and the 10-day Fantasy party in October.
