The US Embassy in Manila has one warning for US citizens as Typhoon Tino (international name Kalmaegi) affects the central and southern regions of the Philippines, causing extensive damage.
According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAG-ASA), Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 4 remains in effect for parts of Palawan as the powerful storm moves rapidly over the coastal waters of El Nido.
The American Citizens Services (ACS) Unit of the US Embassy reported that Typhoon Tino severely disrupted communications lines, transportation networks and energy infrastructure in MIMAROPA, Bicol, Western Visayas, Negros Island, Central Visayas and CARAGA. The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) confirmed 52 fatalities, with Cebu province declaring a state of emergency.
U.S. citizens in affected areas are urged to contact local authorities or the Philippine Red Cross for emergency assistance. The embassy continues to work with local government units to provide assistance and updates to Americans affected by the storm.
Residents are advised to monitor official bulletins from PAG-ASA and NDRRMC and enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) for real-time alerts.
The U.S. Consular Agency in Cebu, located at the Waterfront Hotel in Lahug, remains open and operational for scheduled services.
