It has Gala Time, also known as the most discussed, discussed and otherwise dissected red carpet of the year. Former Vice President Kamala Harris was a surprising guest. She slid into the party without walking the red carpet. But from Diana Ross to Bad Bunny, the arrivals this year have created a buzz. And many arrivals from some of the biggest names, including Kim Kardashian and Ryan Coogler, showed up well after 9 p.m.
The Gala collects money for the costume institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. In recent years, part of the conversation has focused on the gala as a tone deaf representation of wealth and frivolity, but this year the expectation is real.
To celebrate the new exhibition, “Superfine: tailor -made Black Style”, Anna Wintour has a history of a history of the Black Dandy and has hired WHOs who’s who’s who’s style defining black men like her co-presidents: Asap Rocky, Lewis Hamilton, Pharrell Williams and Colman Domingo, Plus LeBron James as a honor. Moreover, a guest committee is filled with a Panophy of Black Talent, who will all probably show (think of Jeremy O. Harris, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Angel Reese and Spike Lee).
For them, the clothing instructions of the Night – “tailor -made for you” – it is not only fashion, it is personal – which means that you can not only expect much appropriate, but that many of the looks we are going to see will be multidimensional, and a change of what often seemed to be the ever -absurd costume of Galas past. It is an evening that concentrates black contributions on fashion that has been late for a long time.
This is to know what else:
-
This year’s theme: The party celebrates the history and influence of the Black Dandy in the Western world, and the way in which fashion is used as a tool for both slavery and liberation. The show was inspired by the book ‘Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black DiaSporic Identity’ from 2009 by Monica L. Miller, a professor in Africana Studies at Barnard College, and it was jointly compiled by Professor Miller and Andrew Bolton, the curator of the costume. We blog the event live, so tune in here.
-
What is the price?: Individual tickets for the gala start at $ 75,000 and tables from 10 for $ 350,000. All the money from ticket sales goes directly to the annual budget of the costume institute. This year those sponsors Louis Vuitton (Mr. Williams is Vuitton’s Men’s Wear Designer), Instagram, Africa Fashion International, Tyler Perry and Condé Nast.

A nod to a legend: Anna Winttour said that planning the gala had been emotional because of the deep connection with André Leon Talley, the old Vogue editor who died in 2022. She said she proposed that “I think he would have the time of his life,” she said.
