New cruise launched at surprising American destination for the first time in decades

Their newest destination, which will arrive in 2026, is sure to be a shock!

For the for the first time in decadesTravelers who want to avoid long flights but still enjoy a multi-day excursion on scenic waters can book a cruise on one of America’s most beautiful lakes.

The Midwest and cruises may seem like oil and water to go together at first glance, but once you get into the vast Great LakesAmerican Cruise Lines is sure to make you forget about remote paradises as you cruise charming harbor towns and vibrant blue lakes.

The Great Lakes Welcomes first cruise in decades

Travelers no longer have to fly across the country to places like San Diego or Miami to set sail for an epic cruise. If you did that, it would be quite a winding route to the Great Lakes.

Instead, travelers can depart from the Midwest, which may sound strange, but according to Charles B. Robertson, president and CEO of American Cruise Lines, “guests have long asked about our style of Great Lakes cruising.”

Adding, “we are now proud to offer these cruises as only Americans can, aboard a new small ship that sails 100% domestically.”

That’s right – no trips to maple country, as all new adventures in the Great Lakes will remain in the US of A.

According to TravelAge West, the “American Patriot” will host up to 130 guests on the following routes.

9-day option:

• Departing from Milwaukee, expect plenty of historic sights including the Harley Davidson Museum, the USS Silverside Submarine Museum and Fayette Historic Townsite, including a stop in the land of cheeseheads by visiting the National Railroad Museum in Green Bay on the Lake Michigan and Upper Peninsula cruise.

Departure dates: June 24, July 1, August 1 and August 8, 2026

• Departing from Syracuse (technically Oswego) and Cleveland, you’ll conquer Lake Erie and Lake Ontario with some cool stops along the way, including Boldt Castle and a glass-bottom excursion to a famous shipwreck, and a visit to the Susan B. Anthony House & Museum on the Great Lakes and Thousand Islands cruise.

Departure dates: May 22, May 29, June 5 and August 27, 2026

14-day option:

• If you’re departing from Cleveland and Milwaukee, you can add 5 days to your itinerary on the American Great Lakes travel and still enjoy the amazing scenery of Lake Erie, Lake Huron and Lake Michigan, plus some delightful stops along the way, including one of our favorite hidden gems here at Travel Off Path, the timeless, car-free island Mackinacand even more underrated Silver Lake Sand Dunes.
