An Inside Look at the Upcoming Gilmore Girls Documentary
Exciting news for Gilmore Girls fans! HBO Max has officially announced the production of a documentary that will take viewers behind the scenes of the beloved town of Stars Hollow. Set to feature Lauren Graham, who portrayed Lorelai Gilmore, the film will be a unique perspective brought by series creator Amy Sherman-Palladino and executive producer Daniel Palladino. This marks the first documentary they have been involved in.
The documentary promises to delve into the magic behind the show’s success, showcasing the creators, cast, crew, and collaborators that made Gilmore Girls a cross-generational phenomenon. Viewers can look forward to never-before-seen outtakes, script pages, and behind-the-scenes footage from the original series, offering a fresh perspective on the charming town of Stars Hollow.
While Lauren Graham is confirmed to participate, it remains uncertain if other main cast members, such as Alexis Bledel, will be joining the documentary. Gilmore Girls first premiered in 2000 on The WB network, capturing the hearts of viewers with the story of single mother Lorelai and her daughter Rory navigating life in their quirky town.

Interestingly, alongside HBO Max’s documentary, another unofficial documentary titled Searching For Stars Hollow is also in the works. This documentary, set to commemorate Gilmore Girls‘ 25th anniversary, will feature interviews with key cast members such as Kelly Bishop, Jared Padalecki, and Chad Michael Murray.
In addition to the documentaries, fans can look forward to a book about the making of Gilmore Girls authored by Amy Sherman-Palladino and Lauren Graham. Scheduled for release in fall 2027, the book will offer unique insights and stories from the set, adding another layer to the Gilmore Girls universe.
