This new year will be a momentous one for Princess Mary of Denmark, following the surprise announcement of the impending abdication of her mother-in-law, Queen Margrethe. It means that the Australian princess, who married Danish Crown Prince Frederik in 2004, will become queen consort later this month when her husband takes over the throne.
