When you think of statement dressing, you probably think of a voluminous ball gown, or perhaps a neon-colored suit. But according to this week’s best-dressed stars, you can still turn heads with looks that are still elegant. Case in point: On the red carpets in recent days, celebrities like Zendaya, Rihanna, and Megan Thee Stallion all slipped into ensembles that were decidedly understated but still made a major fashion impact.
The key to a subtle ensemble that shines? Turns out it’s all in the cut and silhouette. For example, when Megan Thee Stallion attended a Planned Parenthood gala in New York City, her black Versace dress felt fresh thanks to its square neckline and jeweled gold shoulder straps. Ditto for Zoe Kravitz, who has a Cabaret preview in Manhattan in a pure Saint Laurent look with a classic black coat over it. In London, Rihanna also reimagined a classic two-piece suit – going oversized in beige Peter Do tailoring, making it feel instantly cool and modern.
However, there were a few fashion moments this week that were a little more striking. For a Challengers During a photo call in Los Angeles, Zendaya opted for a sculptural Jacquemus design with trendy cutouts and a large, full skirt. For the pre-fall 2024 Louis Vuitton show in Shanghai, Hoyeon Jung also opted for shine, opting for the label’s sheer, sequin-covered dress, which she wore over a black bra top and leggings. When in doubt, use disco ball dressing.
