The red carpet for the 2024 Met Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art has officially closed and fashion’s biggest night has come to an end. This year’s exhibition, ‘Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion’, explores how technology can breathe new life into garments that are too old and fragile to be worn again.
Last night, guests climbed the museum’s famous steps in outfits that gave a nod to the event’s “The Garden of Time” dress code, and you can see all of last night’s Met Gala 2024 looks here. The evening’s sartorial theme takes its name from a story by JG Ballard about an earl who – to ward off an angry mob coming near his castle – cuts a rose from his garden to slow down time until no more flowers are more about. With the story’s dystopian undertones coupled with the exhibition’s emphasis on old and new, we saw a red carpet filled with everything from flowers to techno-inspired fashion – and even a Sleeping Beauty reference or two.
The gala, which raises money for the Metropolitan Museum’s Costume Institute, is known for its top-secret guest list. But while the names of the attendees are being kept under wraps, we now know everyone who graced the carpet in their garden party finery: including Bad Bunny, Chris Hemsworth, Jennifer Lopez and Zendaya, who serve as co-chairs alongside Fashionby Anna Wintour.
