United Airlines is set to introduce its top-tier planes on four additional long-haul routes, enhancing the travel experience for passengers.
This autumn, United will unveil its Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner featuring the innovative “Elevated” interior at Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH).
This particular aircraft boasts United’s state-of-the-art Polaris business-class suites with sliding privacy doors, including eight luxurious Polaris Studio suites.
The entire cabin has been revamped compared to United’s existing long-haul fleet, offering the largest economy seatback screens in the world.

Expansion of United’s Premium Dreamliners
Currently, the upscale 787 aircraft operates on just two long-haul routes: from San Francisco to Singapore and London.
However, as more of these high-end planes are added to United’s fleet, they are now scheduled to make their debut at the airline’s Texas hub.
These Dreamliners will be deployed on routes to four different cities across four continents.
Commencing on October 24, United’s new 787-9s will operate on three routes originating from Houston:
- IAH to Governor Andre Franco Montoro International Airport (GRU) in Sao Paulo
- IAH to Narita International Airport (NRT) in Tokyo
- IAH to Sydney Airport (SYD)

Subsequently, the Elevated Dreamliner will commence service from IAH to London’s Heathrow Airport (LHR) shortly after the new year, starting on January 5.

This next-generation long-haul airplane from United features a seating layout that heavily emphasizes premium seats.
With a total of 99 premium seats in the Polaris business-class and Premium Plus (premium economy) cabins, passengers can enjoy unparalleled comfort and luxury onboard.

The standout feature of this new aircraft is the two rows of cutting-edge Polaris Studios, situated in the front row and bulkhead area.
These premium pods are equipped with 27-inch 4K screens and come with luxurious amenities like a caviar service, providing passengers with an exceptional inflight experience. Travelers can indulge in the comfort and sophistication of these suites, making long-haul flights a truly enjoyable journey.
To secure these premium seats, travelers are advised to book a Polaris seat and then explore upgrade options. It’s important to note that passengers who opt for United’s basic business (“Polaris Base”) fare may not be eligible for upgrades.
Final Thoughts
United previously announced its intention to temporarily deploy the Elevated 787-9 on two additional routes departing from San Francisco International Airport (SFO) earlier in September:
- SFO to Incheon International Airport (ICN) in Seoul
- SFO to Zurich Airport (ZRH)
Following October, the aircraft will be removed from the SFO-ICN route, and the SFO-ZRH route will cease operations for the winter season.
However, both routes are expected to see the return of this advanced aircraft in the future, according to the airline.
As of March, United had plans to receive a total of 20 of these innovative jets by the end of 2026.
