Summer is the most popular time to visit Denali National Park because this is when you have the most access to the park. Their core season runs from mid-June to mid-September, with peak visitation from mid-June to mid-August.
In early August, the tundra plants begin to turn brilliant reds, oranges and yellows, and the berries are also out, which means more chances to see bears. Plus, the nasty mosquitoes have disappeared from most of the park (except Wonder Lake).
August is toward the end of the rainy season, so the hope is to reach the park in late August with lighter crowds and still catch a glimpse of Denali’s majestic peak. You’ll also get about 15 hours of daylight, meaning you can pack your day with adventures.
Pro tip: Be sure to familiarize yourself with the bus system as you will need to use it to access the park. View the details here.
