I know most of us would rather focus on history, attractions or overall allure when choosing our next destination, but the truth is we just don’t have the luxury of that.

As safety and public health have become increasingly uncertain, it’s time we prioritize the places on our bucket list that make us feel relaxed and at ease.

But how do you find out which ones these are?

WalletHub just conducted a study on the safest and most dangerous cities to visit in the US, an analysis based on key indicators such as per capita rates of violence, traffic fatalities, and even unemployment rates.

Ultimately, these five often overlooked cities were crowned the safest in the country (and luckily for us, they’re all pretty interesting to visit, too!).

5. Boise, Idaho

You might be surprised to hear that Idaho’s capital recently broke its all-time tourism record, because it’s not exactly the first place on every traveler’s bucket list, but because people are looking for quieter, safer, and more authentic hubs, Boise becomes such an obvious choice.

Not only is the number of violent crimes low here, with approximately 2 incidents per 1000 inhabitants, but that number is also constantly decreasing in the past four or five years.

Combine that with the fact that you’ll find shockingly breathtaking natural scenery here (or at least a short drive away), highlighted by places like Shoshone Falls Park, Twin Falls, and the Perrine Memorial Bridge, and you get the perfect tranquil getaway. .

4. Burlington, Vermont

If you’re looking for a place with a more lively cityscape that still falls into the “relaxed and safe” category, look no further than Vermont’s largest city.

Burlington remains a bit of a hidden gem, but in my opinion that makes it all the more interesting to visit, especially at this time of year.

You can explore the charming downtown area and watch a sunset over Lake Champlain while feeling like one of the locals.

3. Warwick, Rhode Island

This should come as no surprise, as Rhode Island is generally one of the safest states in the country.

As one of the quietest getaways, Warwick is perfect for anyone traveling alone, with family, or wanting to escape the noise, chaos and even danger of larger cities.

What many don’t realize, however, is that this is actually an incredible place to experience; Between beautiful beaches, cultural attractions and cute specialty shops, Warwick promises every traveler an experience they won’t soon forget.

2. Casper, Wyoming

I know most people think of Casper as a place where you go skiing every now and then, but for those who don’t mind getting away from it all, it’s a fantastic place to experience all year round.

Of course, nights might be a bit quieter here, as the city isn’t exactly known for its thriving club scene or high-end restaurants, but you can spend your days taking in the most awe-inspiring views outdoors and exploring the quaint shops and cafes in the center – those traveling with family will have an extra great time.

1. South Burlington, Vermont

Vermont makes another appearance, this time with the big winner – South Burlington.

Famous for its pristine environment, excellent quality of life and of course excellent safety record, this small but dreamy city is everything you could wish for during those particularly stressful days.

You can spend your time here strolling through Red Rocks Park, relaxing with a nice drink at one of the local bars, or, better yet, enjoying a sumptuous dinner. guided brewery tour.

The Most Dangerous Cities to Visit in the USA

So now we know which places offer us the greatest peace of mind when traveling, but are there any cities among us that prioritize safety that they should avoid altogether?

While it’s hard to speak in absolute terms when it comes to these types of topics, there were a number of destinations that scored quite poorly in the WalletHub survey, so if you were planning on visiting any of these destinations, you may want to reschedule your plans maybe best to reconsider: or at least take some extra safety measures:
