After an impressive $250 million renovation in 2019, Royal Caribbean’s “Perfect day at CocoCay“ reopened as a private island destination, tailor-made exclusively for its cruise guests and employees.
The owner of Icon of the seas– the largest cruise ship in the world – has a lease on the uninhabited island until 2088, so cruise enthusiasts have plenty of time to decide when to plan an escape to this hidden paradise.
This private destination in the Bahamas, 56 miles north of Nassau, is designed to provide a unique experience for cruise goers as it offers a wide range of activities to suit every travel style.
For adventurers there is the Daredevil’s peak, the tallest water slide in North America, along with a water park with wave pools, high-speed slides and a 1,600-foot zipline that stretches across the island.
If you want to go even higher, you’ll love the Up, up and away a helium balloon ride, which offers panoramic views from 130 meters high, giving the select group of cruise passengers an unforgettable perspective of the entire island.
But if you prefer relaxing and mojitos on the beach, you can relax here the Chill Island beach or the Oasis Lagoon-the largest freshwater pool in the Bahamas -or simply stroll around the island’s 300 acres.
For those staying overnight, the island offers luxurious cabanas and daybeds designed for families, groups of friends and solo travelers.
While the island may be uninhabited, that doesn’t mean you won’t find a variety of international food and drink options.
According to Channel 4 – one of the few outsiders granted access to the island – before guests are allowed to disembark, Royal Caribbean staff bring more than 60 tons of food and drinks to the five dining rooms in preparation for their arrival.
“We loved finding comfortable spots by the pool so we could enjoy a refreshing drink while keeping an eye on the kids. The food on the island was delicious; Royal Caribbean provided a fantastic selection including a variety of grilled options, salads and of course ice cream!said James E, a TripAdvisor commenter who visited the island with his family in October 2024.
With its wide range of high-quality attractions and relaxing spaces, the Perfect day at CocoCay has become a standout destination on Royal Caribbean’s Bahamas and Caribbean itineraries.
“Coco Cay is an absolute paradise for families, and we had an unforgettable day exploring this beautiful private island on our Royal Caribbean cruise. From the moment we arrived, the beautiful turquoise waters and pristine beaches set the perfect tone for a fun-filled adventure,” he added.
