Ancient history, rich culture and some of my favorite food in Europe. The reasons to visit Athens this summer are endless.
And now we have another reason to add to that list: one New budget non -stop flight From Lax directly to the city of wisdom.
This is the only non -stop route between Los Angeles and Athens, making it easier than ever to visit this iconic Greek hub.
A new route for Norwegian Atlantic Ocean
Norse Atlantic will operate this new non -stop transatlantic flight and offers the budget rate options that the brand is known for.
If you are not familiar with Norwegian Atlantic, they are a relatively new Norwegian cheap airline, which was not established until 2021. This is not the only transatlantic flight from Los Angeles managed by Norse Atlantic. They already fly non -stop from Lax to London, Paris and Rome.
The new route to Athens will be launched on 3 JuneRD 2025 and will work 4 times a week with fighting on Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. In search of flexibility of your travel dates.
There are already flights available for booking, so I did some research to see how much they would cost.
Fly on Friday 6, June and return on Friday 13, June, costs $ 372 for the outgoing flight and $ 236 for the incoming flight, With a total price of $ 608.
It is worth noting that a discount of up to 20% is applied for Round trip -flights, so these prices will be slightly higher if you want to fly in one way for whatever reason.
As always the case when you choose a cheap airline, the price will rise if you want extras. The above prices are based on the cheapest ‘economy-light’ tickets, which give you one personal item and one hand luggage, but do not record checked baggage.
You are also the last to go on board and you will not receive a meal during the flight if you select this ticket. This can be difficult if the outgoing flight lasts 12 hours 40, and the incoming flight lasts 13 hours 30!
To upgrade to an ‘Economy Class’ ticket, including a meal service during the flight and a checked bag, it costs an extra $ 72 extra at the time of writing.
Why visit Athens?
Athens is often called the cradle of Western civilization, and if you are interested in mythology, art or history, there is nowhere better to visit.
One of the first things you have to do in Athens is visiting the many archaeological miracles. The Acropolis, the Parthenon and the Temple of Olympian Zeus often attract huge crowds of tourists, but for a good reason. They are spectacular and worth exploring.
However, make sure that you allow a lot of downtime: Greek hospitality is legendary, and although the ingredients are simple, there is no such thing as a simple meal. You will find that you are encouraged to take the time while eating, and the service is so hot and attentive. Eating out in Athens is an experience!
In fact, people in Greece are one of the most important attractions in the country for tourists. They are warm and hospitable, and because the Greek economy is so strongly dependent on tourism, they are really happy to see you.
Whether you buy souvenirs or will be lost and ask for directions, a big smile and a warm conversation expected.
Of course you cannot visit Greece without going to the beach, and Athens is well connected to various highly regarded beaches. Edem Beach in Palio Faliro is a free beach in the Athens Riviera and incredibly easy to reach from the city center.
Do you want to explore a little further away? Athens is not only worthwhile to visit itself, but is also the gateway to a wider Greece.
Go to the port of Athens, and you will find regular boats to the islands of Aegina, Spetses, Poros, Hydra and Andros.
Agina is just 40 minutes away, Aegina is the nearest Greek island of Athens and is a popular weekend away for the local population. If you are looking for a day trip or a short break, this is a great choice.
