From February 22, 2025, the US Department of Foreign Affairs has designated 18 Caribbean islands with a travel advice at level 1, indicating that travelers must ‘exercise normal precautions’. These destinations are considered one of the safest in the region for American visitors.

Travel advice levels explained


The US Department of State gives travel advice at four different levels to guide citizens in potential risks abroad:

Level 1: Practice normal precautions: Applies to destinations with a minimum risk.

Level 2: Exercise increased caution: Suggers increased awareness as a result of specific concerns, such as crime or natural disasters.

Level 3: reconsideration reconsider: Advises traveling due to serious safety problems, including terrorism or civil unrest.

Level 4: Don’t travel: Is the highest advice, reserved for areas where serious threats, such as armed conflict or health crises, travel unsafe. Each level is intended to guarantee the safety and well -being of American travelers by offering clear, usable guidance.

  • Cuba
  • Dominican Republic
