With Memorial Day Weekend that starts a vibrant summer seal season, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has issued a warning, in which passengers follow three important steps to guarantee a smoother and faster experience at the airport security control points. The agency is scrapping for a considerable inflow of travelers and estimates that it will screen about 18 million passengers and crew members between Thursday 22 May and Wednesday 28 May.

This advice is because travelers also navigate through the relatively new navigation Real ID -Requirementswho officially came into force on 7 May 2025. TSA -ancanding manager Ha McNeill emphasized the willingness of the Bureau for the raised volume and stated: “TSA is ready for the extra passenger volume and we look forward to welcome families during this peak period.” McNeill also added a crucial memory: “If a friendly memory, to guarantee a smooth screening experience, bring acceptable forms of ID such as your real id.”

According to the TSA, the implementation of Real ID has seen a high compliance, with 93% of the passengers already presenting a real ID or another acceptable form of identification, such as a passport. It is important to remember that all passengers aged 18 and older must present a TSA-accepted form of identification at security control points.

To help everyone, especially those who do not fly often, navigate with more convenience through the airport, the TSA marked The following three essential steps:

Step 1: Smart and know the rules

The first advice from the TSA is to “pack Smart”. This means the efficient organization of your hand luggage and ensuring that everything meets the current TSA regulations. Not sure if an item is allowed in your hand luggage or checked luggage? The TSA encourages passengers to contact directly by texting “Astksa” to 275-872 or contacting them via social media @Aastsa.

A common point of confusion remains the 3-1-1 rule for liquids, aerosols, gels, creams and pastas. These items must be in containers of 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters) or less per item; All containers must fit in one, resealable bag in a liter the size of a liter; And every passenger is limited to such a bag. Taking a few extra minutes at home to organize your bags according to these rules can save considerable time and potential frustration at the Checkpoint. Forbidden items or incorrectly wrapped liquids can lead to extra screening and delays for you and other travelers. It is also wise to ensure that any electronics that is larger than a mobile phone is easily accessible, because you may have to place them in a separate container for X -ray, unless you are in a TSA Precheck® Lane.

Step 2: keep your valid ID ready – and make sure it is a real ID

The second crucial step emphasized by the TSA is to ‘have a valid ID’. This has become even more relevant with the complete enforcement of the real ID Act. Before you go to the airport, take double that you have your real ID-informing driving license or identification card, or another acceptable form of ID such as an American passport or military ID. A complete list of acceptable IDs is available on the TSA website, TSA.GOV.

If you are out and ready to present to the TSA officer when you reach the control point, the identity verification process will be accelerated. The TSA notes that persons arriving at the checkpoint without a real ID or an acceptable alternative form of ID can still undergo identity verification and can pass on the security, but they can be subject to extra screening. “This extra screening can add a lot of time to your journey through security, so ensure that your ID is compliant and is immediately available, is the key. The real ID has a star, usually in the upper part of the card, which indicates compliance.

Step 3: Consider registering in TSA Precheck®

The third tip offered by the TSA is to register for ‘ TSA Preccheck®. “This familiar Traveler program offers a considerably accelerated screening process.

An additional advantage for families is that children aged 17 and younger can accompany an adult with TSA Precheck® when TSA Precheck® is indicated at the boarding school of the child. Registering for the program includes an online application, a personal appointment with a background control and fingerprints and a fee. For frequent flyers, or even those who travel a few times a year, the convenience can be worth the investment.

The TSA underlines that this holiday weekend marks the start of a continuing period of higher passenger volumes that will probably continue to the Labor Day weekend in September. By following these three steps – Packing Smart, ensuring that you have a valid real ID or other acceptable identification and considering registration in TSA Precheck® – travelers can contribute to a more efficient and less stressful airport experience for everyone.
