By “less known”, that can also be the same as “misunderstood”. That is definitely the case for one of the most underrated beach cities in Mexico.
This huge metropolis is usually more known for pharmacy runs, legendary nightlife and the tradition of dark interruptions, but I have been more than 100 times and never come home with a scratch or story to tell further than PG-Rated Shenanigans.
If you haven’t guessed it yet, yes, we’re talking about it TijuanaAn iconic city that is often misunderstood as a no-go zone, but it is really one of the biggest surprise destinations in Mexico.
Yes, Tijuana is a beach city
Look, I get it. If a San Diegan who likes to go on the beach when I don’t swing articles for you, comparing tijuana apples with apples with San Diego would not feel good-the fact that Tijuana has the same wonderful year round again as much of America is melting in heat waves.
But let’s not forget that there is a very controversial “wall” in between, which, right, wrong or indifferent, means how different these 2 cities really are.
Like much of Cabo, it is not advised to take a dip here in the waters, but it is not the powerful waves that you wipe away; It is the lack of infrastructure, which means that waters filled with bacteria are not suitable for swimming.
Just ask Imperial Beach, the southernmost beach city in America opposite the aforementioned ‘Wall’ …
Just as millions of Cabo do not mind without enjoying the spectacular blue waters, the same can be said in Tijuana, only for various reasons and no, there are also no 5-star luxury resorts with a view of the thorning of the border.
Call me crazy, but I love visiting the coast of Tijuana, simply known as ‘the Playas’ usually.
It is a whole atmosphere there with coconut sellers, buzzing bars, phenomenal seafood, massages on the beach (no, not those Friendly), and even a flourishing expansion.
But if you prefer swimming waters, the paradisal city of Rosarito feels much more prepared for holidaymakers with resorts on the beach and a city center that feels like a microcosm Cabo.
Just check local reports on water conditions before you jump in.
Tijuanas Always Changing Skyline: New Hotels on the Horizon
Like I said, I’ve been going to Tijuana for years and it seems that every other time I visit a crane, is part of the cityscape is built as a new high -rise.

If you prefer to skip San Diego and fly straight in, travelers can now fly non -stop on American Airlines from Phoenix or Volaris from Las Vegas.
