The reality in 2025 is that October is the new August. These cities are still packaged, the lines for the Colosseum and Uffizi Gallery are still incredibly long and the hotel prices have not fallen considerably. It does not provide the relaxed, romantic experience that you hope for.
Instead, consider: Bologna, Italy. This is the undisputed foodie capital of Italy and autumn is the absolute best time to visit for the harvest season of truffles and Porcini mushrooms. It offers a beautiful medieval architecture and a lively, authentic atmosphere with a fraction of the tourists.
3. The Greek Islands (Crete, Rhodes)
The problem: the “End of the Blues season”
Although it is not a complete ghost city as in the deep winter, the larger Greek islands can be a disappointment at the end of October and November. The lively energy of the summer has disappeared and the weather becomes a gamble, with a much greater chance of cool, windy and rainy days. While technically speaking, September and October in Dubai are still suppressive and humid, with temperatures that often rise well into the 90s. It is not yet the pleasant “winter season” that makes the city a pleasure to explore outdoors. You pay high prices to stay in the air conditioning indoors, which beats the purpose of an outing.
Instead, consider: Muscat, Oman. The weather here is also starting to be beautiful in October, but it offers a more authentic and demonstrably more picturesque Arabic experience. 7. Munich, Germany (during the Oktoberfest)
