Many travel publications honestly don’t know what they are talking about. It’s like they pick random spots on the map and make a list of them.

Here at Travel Off Path we only share the meaningful with you. Forbes is one of the most trusted names in the industry, and they’ve definitely made this beautiful riverside hideaway a must-visit fall destination.

Talbot County Courthouse - Easton, MD

The truth is that more and more travelers are venturing outside the norm to discover the lesser known, and beautiful small towns are reaping the rewards.

With 300 years of history along Maryland’s famed Chesapeake Bay and inlet rivers, you might think we’re about to dive into the legendary city of Annapolis, but it’s far from a hideaway at this point, welcoming record numbers of visitors.

Instead we go to the other side of the bay, to the east coast, where the little-known town is located Easton is home to countless new restaurants hyped as must-eats, vibrant fall beauty, and relaxing (and surprisingly luxurious) waterfront stays.

Maryland may be the only US state without a naturally formed lake, but its veiny topography of rivers and drains offers no shortage of blissful waterfronts – Easton is a prime example.

Forbes highlighted the city’s best stays, The Oaks And Inn at Perry Cabin, just outside the city limits. Each is set along a secluded riverfront plot of manicured lawns, calm banks with sailboats drifting by and classic, elegant architecture, each with its own unique flair, although The Oaks has recently been renovated.

Popular bro com Wedding Crashers was actually filmed at The Inn at Perry Cabin and is still offering a ‘Visit Like a Wedding Crasher’ package as an ode to the film and a fun way to enjoy a weekend getaway.

Although there’s no word on whether you can talk your way in by saying you know Uncle Ned…

But it’s not just stylish riverside stays to enjoy the serene waters trickling by; Forbes believes Easton is one of the hottest emerging foodie destinations in the Northeast.

Trendy new restaurants galore

The quaint, timeless streets of Easton are becoming a place where old meets new.

More and more restaurants are popping up with creative new culinary concepts in a row of old-fashioned brick storefronts, largely led by Bluepoint Hospitality.

Forbes recommends the following restaurants as absolute musts when visiting Easton:

  • The wardrobe (a fresh from the oven Italian enoteca with more than 400 types of wine at hand!)🍷
  • The Washington Street Pub (a renovated community base in a building dating back to 1710!) 🍺
  • Bass Rouge (endorsed by James Beard’s award-winning chef – hope you love sea boogers!) 🦪
  • Sunflowers & Greens (for those who maintain their diet during the holidays)🥗
  • The Steward (known for the single malt scotch and the ‘eclectic’ luxury menu)?
  • Roma Alla Pala (offers ‘authentic Roman pizza’ and homemade ice cream)🍕

Forbes may have focused on what’s new and trendy, but remember this city is about 300 years old.

As such, there are countless establishments that stand the test of time. One of those places is Tidewater Inn Bed & Breakfast, dating back to 1712, and home to the popular Hunter’s Tavern.

The general consensus is that the Coastal crab dip is second to none, which should come as no surprise considering the Chesapeake is world famous for its blue crabs and overall dock-to-table cuisine.

How do you get here?

Unfortunately, there are no ferries to Easton (hmm, did I just think of my next business idea?)💡.

Although there is the nearby historic Oxford-Bellevue Ferryit’s still a bit out of the way to justify jumping on board.

So unless you happen to have a buddy with a boat, skip the lively marina and drive in.

The good news is that this side of Maryland makes for an excellent road trip, albeit a short one from nearby airports.

The best way to arrive is to fly into Baltimore (BWI) or even another airport that few travelers know about, as Breeze Airways recently started operating here: Salisbury Regional Airport (SBY).

Salisbury serves Orlando via Breeze and Charlotte and Philadelphia via American Airlines. Otherwise, the busy Baltimore airport is the best option, where you can easily rent a car and travel to Easton via scenic bayside roads.

Both SBY and BWI are about an hour’s drive away.
