Spain is one of the most popular destinations in Europe for travelers and one of the best countries to visit in winter, thanks to its overall warmer climate, especially in southern Spain.
Seville is the capital of southern Spain and the fourth largest city in the country. It is known for its stunning architecture, historic charm and famous traditions such as flamenco and bullfighting.
Here’s why Seville, Spain is one of the best destinations to visit this winter:

1. Winter sun destination
Seville, called Sevilla in Spanish, is located in the Andalusia region of southern Spain. This means it enjoys plenty of sunshine and warm weather, even in winter.
Even in the coldest months of December and January, the average high temperature in Seville is 62° F. It also very rarely rains in Seville, making it the perfect winter sun destination when much of the rest of Europe is dealing with freezing temperatures and snow.

Seville’s mild winter weather is also a respite from the scorching summer temperatures, which regularly soar above 100°F.
2. Less crowded in winter
Despite being sweltering in the summer, Seville still receives many tourists during the summer months, as well as during the “shoulder seasons” of late spring and early fall.
However, during the winter months you will experience much less crowds in Seville. However, that does not mean that nothing is going on, far from it. You can simply enjoy Seville’s popular sights such as the Royal Alcazar and the Seville Cathedralor walk through the Plaza de Españaor sit on a terrace without the huge crowds.

3. Affordable destination
Another reason to visit Seville in winter? It’s affordable! Since winter is the off-season in Seville, you can find much better hotel deals than during the high season.
Overall, Seville is also one of the more affordable destinations in Spain, especially when compared to other popular tourist destinations such as Barcelona and Madrid.

And compared to the rest of Europe, Spain is already a bargain, compared to expensive nearby countries like France or the United Kingdom. This means that your money in Seville will go much further than you might expect!
4. Great for solo travelers
Another reason to visit Seville is because it is a great destination for solo travelers. It’s known as a very safe city, and the Spanish night culture (lots of people eat around 10 or 11 p.m.!) means people are out and about until late in the evening.

It’s also a good destination for meeting other travelers and locals alike, and the city (and its surroundings) is easy to get around, making it easy to get around.
5. Many options for day trips
Finally, one of the best reasons to visit Seville is the many incredible day trip options nearby! You can easily base yourself in Seville for a week, spend half the time exploring the city and the other half of your time taking day trips around Andalusia.

Cordoba is one of the best day trips from Seville. It is only 50 minutes by train. This historic city dates back to Roman times and was an important Islamic center during the Middle Ages. The Islamic influence can be seen in La Mezquita, a medieval mosque that was later converted into a cathedral.
Another great day trip is Jerez de la Frontera. This is another beautiful Andalusian city, an hour by train from Seville. And just 40 minutes extra from Jerez de la Frontera you will find it Cadiza historic coastal city.
