The great thing about digital nomadism is that you can stay longer in places you love.

But where will the best destinations for digital nomads be before 2024? A recent study could provide the answers.

InterNations recently surveyed its large community of expats and digital nomads to find the locations where people prefer to be.

It ranked no fewer than 49 different destinations around the world, but these seven were rated among the very best:

Bangkok, Thailand

Bangkok, Southeast Asia’s original megacity, is as charming as it is chaotic.

Despite its continued popularity, Bangkok remains an affordable and fun place to spend some time as a digital nomad.

The size of the city alone means that accommodation can be found at a decent price; Public transportation is also cheap, as are ride-sharing apps like Grab, while in some cases you can enjoy a hearty meal at a restaurant for less than $15.

It’s also one of my all-time favorite solo travel destinations.

Malaga, Spain

Surrounded by beautiful beaches and basking in a warm Mediterranean climate with more than 300 days of sunshine a year, Malaga has a lot to offer as a destination for digital nomads.

Combining a perfect blend of Andalusian history and modern culture, there is much more to the artsy city of Malaga than the stereotypes would have you believe.

There are plenty of parties to be had if you’re the type who wants to make friends, while the iconic Alcazaba fortress and museums dedicated to the life and work of artist Pablo Picasso offer a more relaxed, cultural way to experience this destination.

Mexico City, Mexico

The sprawling metropolis of Mexico City is easily one of the most popular destinations for solo travelers and digital nomads in Latin America.

From the hipster neighborhoods of Roma and La Condesa to mainstream icons like Palacio de Bellas Artes, Mexico City has no shortage of attractions to keep you entertained for as long as you decide to stay.

The city has many positives for digital nomads, such as an easy visa, generally affordable cost of living, good internet, and a relatively good safety record, despite what you may have heard.

Alicante, Spain

Alicante has recently been rated as one of the cheapest destinations on the Mediterranean. It is located on Spain’s Costa Blanca and has beautiful beaches that match that name.

Food, public transport and accommodation are all very reasonable in Alicante, despite its popularity as a holiday city for much of Europe.

Divide your workday with trips to one of the many beaches or visit one of the region’s historic castles, such as Santa Barbara.

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Malaysia’s colorful capital has a different atmosphere than many of its Southeast Asian counterparts, with a slightly slower pace of life and less chaotic nature.

It is a multicultural city with an attractive nightlife, a fantastic food scene and some iconic landmarks such as the Petronas Towers and the KL Tower.

Malaysia is also considered a very safe country for digital nomads and has better infrastructure than many of its neighbors in the region.

If you decide to go, be sure to visit the nearby Batu Caves for a taste of Malaysian culture and nature.

Valencia, Spain

Valencia is a great example of how you can combine centuries-old tradition with the latest modernity. It is a trendy and increasingly popular city where digital nomads can spend some time.

You can see the old side of Valencia at icons such as the Miguelete and Holy Grail Cathedral and the Barrio del Carmen, while the more modern side can be seen in the stylish City of Arts and Sciences district.

Valencia is relatively cheap and has very clean, efficient and affordable public transport, including trams, which take you to the beautiful beach with ease.

Madrid, Spain

The last Spanish destination to complete this list is the capital Madrid.

While it doesn’t have year-round warm temperatures like some of its coastal counterparts, it is a city dripping with culture and history.

Americans have been drawn here in record numbers, perhaps in part due to iconic sights such as the Plaza Mayor, the Royal Palace, or the many tranquil and beautiful gardens surrounding the city.
