They say, “everything is bigger in Texas.” Perhaps no city in the state believes in this overused phrase more than this one.
The follow-up is usually, “Does bigger mean better?”.
Travelers can decide that. Whether it’s a gigantic skyline, overloaded barbecue grills, or even wide open spaces, this Texas city has it all.
This historic city, built by the riches of an oil boom, has seen decades of growth, but is somehow not typically seen as a top destination in the US.
We at Travel Off Path disagree. So much so, that we have rewarded Dallas as a top 10 destination for 2024. Not only within the US, but around the world!
Here are 5 reasons why you should visit this Texas city in 2024:
a Foodie heaven
Ironically, it is one of the largest cities in the Bible belt is a foodie heaven. Dallas is home to just about every type of food imaginable.
Not often thought of as a cultural city, Dallas is full of surprises when it comes to the variety of cuisine you can find within its expansive city limits.
The first thing that comes to mind is of course overflowing plates of barbecue. There are so many barbecue places that locals each have their favorite.
Besides the barbecue, Mexican food is a common argument in the household. Although many agree that ‘Mexican food’ should be classified as ‘Tex-Mex’.
There are trendy restaurants everywhere with many international cuisines, but the ultimate foodie experience every year is the famous Texas State Fair held here in Dallas.
Dallas is even taking a page out of Austin’s book with new food trucks and food halls popping up left and right.
New developments
Just like how you feel after indulging in all the food in Dallas, the city is expanding outward. One of the trendiest places outside of Dallas is the thriving city of Frisco, just 30 minutes from downtown Dallas.
This small town turned trendy city has experienced crazy growth over the years. For tourists, it’s a shop-till-you-drop stop during your Dallas getaway.
Home to the 1.6 million square foot Stonebriar Center, this place gives the Mall of America a run for its money.
In addition to shopping, of course, there are seemingly endless restaurants and bars to choose from, such as the charming Rail District.
Frisco is on a non-stop mission to make a name for itself with ongoing projects in the coming years, including a new Universal Studios in the works.
Cool neighborhoods
Dallas isn’t all big trucks and country music; there are some hip neighborhoods that go against what Dallas is known for.
A short drive from downtown Dallas, the Bishop Arts District is thriving with vibrant local shops, bars and restaurants.
Another cool neighborhood just steps from downtown is Deep Ellum. For no apparent reason, this quirky area is home to everything from tattoo parlors to bars and giant robot statues.
Just north of Deep Ellum is Lower Greenville, a stretch of walkable shopping and dining options long famous for its St. Patrick’s Day Block Party.
Wide selection of art
Downtown has undergone some revitalization over the years, as many visitors found themselves in uptown rather than downtown.
Now upgraded with chic hotels, fine dining and dazzling works of art, exploring beneath the skyline is a fun playground for all types of travelers.
What stands out most is Dallas’ art scene, the largest urban arts district in the country. In addition to street murals and random art installations, Dallas’ museums are home to some of the world’s most sought-after masterpieces from the likes of Picasso, Van Gogh, Warhol, and more.
Don’t forget Fort Worth
When you fly to Dallas, you will arrive at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW). Just 30 minutes away, Fort Worth is a worthwhile destination in its own right.
While locals complain about the traffic between the two cities, Fort Worth had no problem bringing in enough visitors to break all tourism records.
Known as Where the West beginsthis cowboy town is home to the timeless Stockyards, new luxury hotels getting national attention and classic honky-tonks to shake your badonkadonk.
