Spring is always circled on the calendar as one of the best times of year to travel.
While most of us look for sunny beach holidays after a long, cold winter, others opt for iconic cultural cities.
Align with from Allianz According to the most recent analysis of the travel plans of more than 3.4 million Americans, this appears to be the case for the majority of travelers right now.
The travel insurer searched the itineraries of millions of American travelers for stays of 5 to 8 days through April 15.
Travelers’ bags are filled with passports in hand, ready to fly to these incredible 10 destinations, according to Allianz:
- 10) Liberia, Costa Rica
- 9) Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands
- 8) London, England
- 7) Oranjestad, Aruba
6) Nassau, Bahamas
Things have been tough for the Caribbean lately when it comes to security.
Whether it was overhyped or not, Nassau, which is usually considered safe for tourists, saw a wave of crime in a short period of time.
Although alarming, travelers are still booking vacations to this popular paradise getaway with world-famous resorts, otherworldly beaches and multiple exotic islands.
Safety concerns aside, it’s no surprise that Americans are visiting in droves, as the Bahamas is one of the easiest Caribbean islands to reach from the US mainland.
5) Montego Bay, Jamaica
The US State Department issued an alarming travel advisory for Jamaica in January, but it appears many travelers are ignoring it.
So much so that this popular island nation continues to break tourism records despite safety concerns. That being said, Montego Bay remains the most visited.
Known for its luxurious resorts, beautiful beaches, hospitable locals and hearty cuisine, Montego Bay is high on the list for those in need of a getaway.
However, Jamaica offers much more than one resort hotspot. It is truly a great cultural place to visit.
With the launch of new direct flights to beautiful beach resorts like Ocho Rios, travelers can’t help but be drawn to this iconic Caribbean island.
4) Puerto Vallarta, Mexico
Puerto Vallarta is having a moment. The beautiful Mexican beach city broke tourist records in 2023 and is also off to a good start in 2024.
Despite having some beach hazards at the beginning of the year, Puerto Vallarta has become the third most popular destination in the country right now.
One of the few mega-popular beach outings that travelers can still enjoy Real Mexico, it only adds to the appeal of the breathtaking beauty of the mesmerizing blue waters and lush green hills.
This wonderful outing is for everyone. In fact, it is one of the most LGBTQ-friendly destinations in Latin America.
3) Punta Cana, Dominican Republic
The Dominican Republic has long been one of the favorite holiday destinations for travelers in the Caribbean, but with the recent travel advisories for Jamaica and the Bahamas, travel to the DR has certainly increased.
While the affordable, easy-to-reach country offers great beach vacations, the inland cities of Santiago and Santo Domingo have also become trendy.
Of course, no trip to the DR is complete without some time at the beach, and there’s no better place than the shining star of the Dominican Republic: fabulous Punta Cana.
This safe, family-friendly beach town is the perfect escape with endless things to do in paradise, but nothing beats the powdery sand and crystal blue waters of Bavaro Beach.
2) San Jose del Cabo, Mexico
The lush beach town of Los Cabos is split between Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo, so it’s interesting to see Allianz specifically highlighting the latter.
While Cabo San Lucas is home to some of the most popular beach resorts and nightlife, San Jose del Cabo has retained its charming historic streets while offering incredible resorts.
You can even in a ‘Treehouse‘!
Sky-high prices don’t stop Americans from heading to the southern tip of Baja for the ultimate spring break with some of Mexico’s most pristine beaches.
1) Cancun, Mexico
Shocking, right?! As if Cancun wasn’t hyped enough, it now lands on another top destination list.
But it’s not all nonsense. Cancun is the real deal, with world-class resorts and breathtaking beaches. The fact that it is so busy shows that it is not destined to disappoint travelers.
Mexico’s iconic vacation hotspot is no different in popularity this spring, except for the fact that there’s a whole new way to explore this sunny region of Mexico.
That’s right – the long-awaited one Mayan Train is the hottest ticket in town.
