The breathtaking Yucatan Peninsula, consisting of the states of Yucatan, Quintana Roo and Campeche, is about to launch more international flights by the United States, Canada, Spain and France in the next months.

From July 1st Viva Aerobus will operate the route Orlando-Merida three times a week. Also a new route from Merida to Miami will be available four days a week from July 2.

JetBlue offers 15 daily flights from New York (JFK) to Tulum brand new airport (TQO) from June 13. The airline also announced plans to launch new routes to Mexico’s Pacific coast, but did not provide more details.

A few days ago, Volaris confirmed a new flight between Cancun and McAllen, Texas. This route will run twice a week from July 3.

Sunwing airlinesa Canadian low-cost airline, will launch seven weekly flights to Tulum from May 2024.

The Spanish carrier Iberojet will also offer direct flights to Tulum from Spain and France in 2024.

From today, Air Canada offers direct flights to Tulum from Toronto and Montreal.

For his part, Copa Airlines operated the route Panama-Tulum since February.

While Felipe Carillo Puerto in Tulum is the fastest growing airport on the Yucatán Peninsula, Merida has also seen a significant increase in connectivity in recent months.

American tourists make up the largest number of arrivals at 36 percent of total visitors. As of today, airlines such as American Airlines are operating routes by New York, Houston, Atlanta, Charlotte, Miami, Dallas and Chicagothe main destination of Cancun Americans.

Cancun also plans to expand its offering to more countries in Europe and South America.

Quintana Roo’s four airports connect visitors from 42 cities in the US, 20 in Canada and 18 in Latin America to the hotspots of the Yucatan.

According to a recent report from Inegi, In February alone, more than 6.6 million visitors passed through Mexico’s international airports.

New domestic flights

International visitors and locals alike will enjoy increased air connections between Tulum Airport (TQO) and the Mexico Valley Metropolitan Zone. This includes all of Mexico City, 59 Mexican state municipalities, and one state municipality of Hidalgo.

“Starting May 2, Aeromexico will operate two daily flights from AIFA to Tulum International Airport. This new route will streamline access to the Mexican Caribbean in this new tourism era,said Quintana Roo Governor Mara Lezama.

Those wanting to travel through the Yucatan, Quintana Roo and Campeche can book flights from Cancun to Cozumel, Merida or Chetumal; Cozumel to Chichén, Itzá or; Merida to Tabasco, from one to five times a week.

Merida is another city that has seen exponential growth since December 2023, when several flights from the central region of the country were launched.
