Quinta da Regaleira



If you are in Lisbon this year, we recommend taking a day trip to Lisbon Quinta da Regaleira. This palace is located in the picturesque town of Sintra. Designed by Italian architect Luigi Manini, it features a mix of Gothic, Roman and Renaissance architecture.

It is surrounded by an enchanting, fairytale garden full of mystical tunnels, caves, fountains and statues. Another unique feature of Quinta da Regaleira is the Initiation Well. It never served as a well, but was used for ceremonial purposes. Today you can climb it and discover the secrets hidden there.

Covao dos Conchos

Sinkholes are fascinating creations of nature. And this one is no exception. It has become established Covao dos Conchosan artificial lake in the Serra da Estrela Natural Park.

It was built in 1955 to transfer water from Ribeira das Naves to the Lagoa Comprida reservoir, making it a quite unique sinkhole. Or rather: a spillway, because it is artificial.

Apart from this wonder, there are plenty of hiking trails nearby. You can also enjoy bird watching and other wildlife, or visit cute little mountain villages in the area.

The village of Monsanto



If you want to visit an authentic Portuguese village, put Monsanto on your travel bucket list. It is often called the ‘most Portuguese village in Portugal’ and as soon as you step inside, you immediately feel like you are in the Middle Ages.
