Embark on a journey through Olympic National Park, a captivating natural wonderland boasting the enchanting PNW coastline, lush rainforests, serene lakes, and majestic mountains. This park offers year-round outdoor adventures that will transport you to a different realm. I was pleasantly surprised to discover the presence of rainforests right here in the US.

Our guide, Betsy, shared fascinating insights about the park’s birdlife, animal tracks, and plant species, providing us with a fresh and enjoyable perspective. - Visitor Center – Make sure to grab a Junior Ranger book and add a stamp to your national park passport.
- Hoh Rain Forest (Hall of Mosses) – The iconic Hoh Rainforest is a must-visit for first-timers. Its lush green moss covering everything creates a surreal and magical ambiance that is truly unique. Just be prepared for long lines, especially in the summer.
- Sol Duc Falls – Take a leisurely 1.8-mile round trip hike to witness the stunning 50-foot waterfall. This picturesque cascade is one of the most photogenic in the Pacific Northwest, perfect for photography enthusiasts. Extend your hike to Lovers Lane for a quieter experience.
- Lake Crescent – This pristine lake, a remnant of the last ice age and Washington’s second-largest, offers a tranquil setting for a picnic. Enjoy a delicious lunch from Country Aire Market at Lake Crescent Lodge. Don’t forget to collect a stamp at the Lodge with your National Park passport.
- Salt Creek Recreation Area – Embrace the rugged PNW coastline and indulge in tide pooling to appreciate the beauty of nature at a slower pace. Keep an eye out for crabs, anemones, sea urchins, and other fascinating marine life. If you’re lucky, you might spot a nudibranch.
- Hurricane Ridge – Drive up to an elevation of 5242 feet for breathtaking panoramic views of the Olympic Mountains. Although temporarily closed due to rockfall during our visit, we remain hopeful for its reopening on our next trip.
Pro Tip: Carry a compact raincoat even on clear days, as the rainforest climate can surprise you with sudden showers. We recommend the Patagonia jacket, which conveniently folds into its pocket. For a budget-friendly option, consider this alternative.
